All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::IOOF Cemetery--Norman OK Norman Transcript October 17, 2003 Troy Thomas McKenzie Troy Thomas McKenzie, 82, of Norman died Wednesday, Oct. 15, in Norman. Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel with Rob Mason officiating. Burial will follow at the Norman IOOF Cemetery. Havenbrook Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mr. McKenzie was born July 8, 1921, in Lebanon, Okla., to Arch and Mitchel Moon McKenzie. He grew up in the Lebanon area in southern Oklahoma. He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps Camps. He married LaVerne Johnston March 2, 1943, in Madill. Mr. McKenzie and his three brothers joined the Armed Forces during World War II. He served with the 18th Field Artillery. He received many decorations and citations for his service including the American Theater Campaign and EAME Campaign Medals with five bronze stars, the Victory Medal and three Overseas Service Bars. He served in World War II in Normandy, northern France, Rhineland and central Europe. He was wounded in battle during the Battle of the Bulge. He was released from service in 1948. He rejoined the Army in 1952 and served until he retired June 3, 1967, at the rank of master sergeant. He was a Korean conflict veteran. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He was then an Elks Club manager in Sierra Vista, Ariz. He was a lodge manager for the State of Oklahoma Tourism Department. He retired from the State of Oklahoma in 1980. He moved from Hawaii to Norman in 1989. He enjoyed many hobbies including fishing, skin diving and gambling. His family said he was an excellent cook and an avid Sooner football fan. He was a lifelong Democrat. Mr. McKenzie was preceded in death by his parents; wife, LaVerne; brother, Otis Wayne McKenzie; and nephew, Burl Tabor. Mr. McKenzie is survived by his sons, Tom W. McKenzie and wife, Cynthia, of Fort Worth, Texas, and David T. McKenzie of Oklahoma City; daughter, Sharon Corpora and husband, Ivor, of Chicago; sister, Nila Mae Figuroa and husband, Art, of Tucson, Ariz.; brothers, Archie McKenzie of Ardmore, Everett McKenzie and wife, Doris, of Fort St. James, Canada, Aubra Hugh McKenzie and wife, Gloria, of Burlingame, Calif., and Kenneth McKenzie and wife, Anita, of Sherman, Texas; grandchildren, Doug and Timothy Larson, Christopher Corpora, Stephanie Frame and Thomas and Nathan McKenzie; and great-grandchildren, Sydney, Shea and Stella Corpora, Raiden Larson and Sophia Frame. Bearers will be the Army Honor Guard. Honorary bearers will be Thomas, Tommy and David McKenzie, Christopher Corpora, Timothy Larson and Stephanie Frame.
