A vigil will be held at 7 p.m. today at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Norman. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Norman with the Rev. Edward Menasco officiating. Burial will be in El Salvador. Havenbrook Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mrs. Penate was born Dec. 18, 1956, in Santa Ana, El Salvador, the second oldest of nine children and the only daughter. She came to the United States in 1988 and worked in Beverly Hills, Calif., cleaning homes. She moved to Norman in 1998. She worked in housekeeping for the Villager Lodge Hotel in Norman for five years. Her family said she was a wonderful cook and loving mother of four and grandmother of four. Mrs. Penate enjoyed dancing and won many awards and dancing contests. Mrs. Penate was preceded in death by her father, Manuel Penate and brothers, Mario Ernesto and Carlos Alonso Penate. Mrs. Penate is survived by her mother, Lucia Villanueva of El Salvador; children, Zully Penate of Oklahoma City, Noe Lopez and wife, Jennifer, of Norman, Manuel Lopez of Norman and Alex Penate of Norman; six brothers; four grandchildren; and many other family members from Oklahoma, California and El Salvador.
