Panter William E. Panter, 78, of Norman died Tuesday, Sept 30, in Norman. Services are pending with Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman. Online condolences may be posted at www.havenbrookfuneralhome.com/Obituaries.html. ========= Norman Transcript October 2, 2003 Bill Panter Bill Panter, 78, of Norman died Tuesday, Sept. 30, in his home. Wake services will be at 7 p.m. today at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Norman. A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman is handling arrangements. Mr. Panter was born Jan. 19, 1925, in Morganton, Ga., to Arthur and Eula Panter. He enlisted in the Navy immediately after graduating high school. He served on several aircraft carriers in the Pacific Ocean during World War II. He retired after 30 years and spent the remainder of his career working at Tinker Air Force Base. He retired in 1978. He was a longtime member of the Young Men's Club and served as president, treasurer and chairman of various committees. He was actively involved in the Golden Ager's Club at St. Joseph's Catholic Church where he served as treasurer. He enjoyed traveling and cooking. He was well known for his fresh coconut cake. He family said he could always be counted on for the church bake sales, potluck dinners and friend and family birthdays. Mr. Panter was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty, and son, Bob. Mr. Panter is survived by his wife of 20 years, Alice; sons, Bill Panter of Michigan and Brent Panter and wife, Peggy, of North Carolina; step- daughters, Linda Airington and husband, Ancel, and Jan Milanowski and husband, Scott; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brothers, Ray Panter and wife, Helen, and Don Panter and wife, Eva, all of Georgia; and sisters, Betty and Barbara Panter, Robbie Luedke and Edna Bowling, all of Georgia.
