(Tom) Siegenthaler I.E. (Tom) Siegenthaler died Wednesday, Oct. 8. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church in Norman. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Mulhall at 3 p.m. Saturday. Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman is handling arrangements. Mr. Siegenthaler was born May 3, 1927, in Boynton, the third of four children born to Irvin E. Siegenthaler and Florence L. White-Siegenthaler. He was awarded a high school diploma from Wainwright High School with military credits earned in the Navy. He served in the Navy amphibious group from 1944-46. He received a bachelor's degree in agriculture education from Oklahoma A&M in January 1949. He married Grace M. Taylor May 27, 1949. He taught vocational agriculture at Labette County Community High School in Altamont, Kan., from 1950-1955. He received a master's degree in agriculture education and agronomy from Oklahoma State University in August 1954. He joined the OSU-Ethiopia contract program in December 1955. He taught plant science and conducted coffee research experiments at Jimma Agriculture Technical School in Jimma, Ethiopia, until 1963. He completed an Ed.D. degree in 1965. He served as dean of Vocational Adult Education at New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, N.M. He then became a private consultant for Manpower Development to the deputy minister of agriculture in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Mr. Siegenthaler and his wife returned to Norman where they owned and operated Tom's Meat Market until they retired in 1992. He maintained an interest in education and served on the articulation committee to help plan Oklahoma's school-to- work program. He also served on the oversight committee for technical higher education. He was actively involved with the "Heritage at Risk" program supporting the building of The Oklahoma Museum of Natural History. He retired in 1992 and became a volunteer at Norman Regional Hospital where he was past president of the auxiliary. He was also on the building committee that planned, developed and built the Hospitality House at the hospital. He was a member of McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church and was a member on the advisory group for the older adult ministry. He was an ambassador for the Norman Chamber of Commerce, served on the board at Full Circle Day Care, Friends of Museum and Rotary Club. Mr. Siegenthaler's family said he not only touched people's lives, he became part of their lives with his love, humor, sense of self-respect and concern. Mr. Siegenthaler's family said he will be missed, but most importantly he will be remembered through other people's actions. Mr. Siegenthaler is survived by his wife, Grace Mae Taylor Siegenthaler; sons, George of Morrison, Colo., Tom of Arlington, Texas, and David of Richmond, Va.; brother, James S. Siegenthaler; sisters, Nina Hager and Lois Allen, both of Muskogee; and grandchildren, Tad Siegenthaler, Kaylee and Rylan Siegenthaler and Kim Brush.
