Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, October 6, 2003 at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dexter Blevins officiating. Interment will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Norman, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma. Mr. Smith was born July 20, 1928 in Blanchard, Oklahoma, to Charles L. And Ethel Mae Gunter Smith. He moved to Norman from Bridge Creek in 1940. He graduated from Norman High School. Mr. Smith served with the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948. He was employed at Tinker Air Force Base as a test equipment maintenance supervisor for thirty-seven years, he retired in 1989. He married Joan E. Crawford on June 12, 1949 at the First Nazarene Church in Norman. Mr. Smith was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and served as a first grade Sunday School teacher. He was an avid O.U. football and basketball fan. He loved working in his yard and delighted in helping others. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Diane Elizabeth, brother, Stanley Smith and sister, Dayle Hunt. Survivors include his wife, Joan of the home; four sons, Charles R. Smith and wife, Julie of Edmond, OK, Michael J. Smith of Norman, OK, Kevin S. Smith of Norman, OK and Steven J. Smith of Moore, OK; daughter, Deborah J. Cummins and husband, Les of Norman, OK; sister, Margaret Gill of Norman, OK; three granddaughters, Tiffani A. Smith, Elizabeth D. Cummins and Lindsey M. Smith; and three grandsons, Jonathan N. Cummins, Cameron J. Smith and Jason T. Smith.Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association at 5375 SW 7th St., Topeka, KS 66606.
