Saulsbury, our loving, faithful, honest and generous husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, died peacefully at his Clackamas River home on June 2. Born in Norman, Okla., Oct. 3, 1911, to Syria and Nora, he was the oldest of three children. They moved to the Northwest and finally settled in the Milwaukie area where he was a multi-sport letterman athlete at Milwaukie Union High School. There he met, and in 1935 married, Mary June "Jeri" Wood. Working in the shipyard during World War II, he became a steamfitter, joining the local union. After the war he worked on many large projects including The Dalles Dam. In the early '50s, as a result of his honest and hard work, he was selected to be trained in LaCrosse, Wis., to become the Northwest service technician for The Trane Company. In this capacity he was responsible for initial start-up of huge heating/air-conditioning units in Portland's Memorial Coliseum, Lloyd Center and First Interstate Bank Tower. He also worked internationally, air-conditioning a gold mine in South Africa, a naval hospital in Guam, an oil refinery in Bahrain and the new capitol building in Seoul, Korea. He was known throughout the industry as "Mr. Trane." Later he became a founder and partner in Tri-M (Mechanical Maintenance Management Company), and retired after being a service engineer for Portland Public Schools. Upon retirement, John and Jeri enjoyed camping and fishing with friends and family, especially at Paulina and Diamond Lakes. He is survived by Jeri, his wife of 72 years; three children, Dennis, Dick and Linda; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family extends their sincere 'thank you' to the people at Kaiser Permanente Hospice for their wonderful help and support. There will be a private celebration of John's life on Father's Day. Remembrances to Kaiser Hospice, 2701 NW Vaughan St., Suite 140, Portland, OR 97210.
