Stockton, CA November 17, 1928 - April 12, 2007 Dorothy Anne Suttmann passed away peacefully, Thursday, April 12, 2007 in a local hospital after a hard fought battle with lung disease and cancer. She was attended constantly in her last weeks by members of her large immediate family. Two of her eight devoted children were present in the last moments. She started her life as Dorothy Anne Schultz in Tuscon, AZ on November 17, 1928, where she began her lifelong love of the desert and appreciation for native America. For years and years "Arizona Highways" magazine was a household feature. The Schultz family relocated to Norman, OK to follow her father Ernest J. Schultz to his professorship in music at Oklahoma University. A whiz at scholastics, Dorothy graduated from O.U. and started a career as a teacher. She was teaching second grade in Colorado in 1953 when she met and later married future Naval officer Marvin H. Suttmann. Following Marv across the country, the growing Suttmann family spent time in Maryland, Illinois, San Diego, Pearl Harbor and Hayward before settling in Stockton in 1966. Dorothy was a loving mother of 8 children. A full time homemaker, very active in her children's activities. She received Honorary Service award from P.T.A. A high school math tutor, tireless scorekeeper, statistician, chaperone for numerous athletic teams and our #1 fan. Dorothy also was a member of the Stockton Rose Society, she enjoyed bowling and gardening as long as her health permitted. Even as her strength waned, she continued to find enjoyment from weekly outings with the "Tuesday Lunch Brunch", hours of Legos with the grandkids and days filled with many kinds of puzzles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Commander Marvin H. Suttmann and brothers, Donald and James Schultz. Loving mother of Anna (Larry) Suttmann-Kenworthy of San Rafael, Susan (Mike) DesJardin of Sunnyvale, Karl (Janice) Suttmann of Citrus Heights, Rebecca MacKenzie of Menlo Park, Lesa Decker, John Suttmann, Barbara (Aaron) Guzman and Ed Suttmann all of Stockton. Grandmother of Brenna and Kira Kenworthy, Matt and Jackie DesJardin, Kory Suttmann, Sarah and Jody Decker, Christina, Maigan and Quintin Suttmann, Jessica and Max Guzman, Kyle and Scott MacKenzie, Kimberly, Ashley and Nicole. Sister of Ernest John (Teddy) Schultz, Jr. of OK. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Evergreen Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park, Hwy 99 at Harney Lane, Lodi. Visitation hours on Friday 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way at Beckman Rd., Lodi.
