All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Amarillo Globe News 13 April 1998 Whitsett, Johnson Mallory Johnson Mallory Whitsett, 89, of Amarillo, died Sunday, April 12, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Polk Street United Methodist Church with Dr. Jim Garrett officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by BlackburnShaw Funeral Directors, Fifth at Pierce St. Mr. Whitsett was born in Waterloo, Ala. He attended the University of Oklahoma. He moved to Amarillo, where he was vice-president and sales manager of Smyth Auto Supply. In 1964, he moved to Dallas, where he was part owner and president of Star Automotive Warehouse until his retirement. After his retirement, he returned to Amarillo. Mr. Whitsett was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Dallas, where he served as chairman of the board, chairman of the budget committee, chairman of finance, and was a member of the Evangelism Program and his Sunday School class. In Amarillo, he was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church, where he was on the administrative board, chairman of the budget drive, an usher, a member of the 50-50 class and served on the council of ministries. He married Myrtle Brooks in 1939 at San Antonio. She died in August of 1997. Survivors include his son, J. Mal Whitsett of Amarillo; and a grandson. The family will be at 6004 Dartmouth.
