All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Guardian FH--Norman OK Tucson Citizen, Tucson AZ WHEELER, Mildred E., Mildred Evelyn "Millie" Wheeler, 80, formerly of Tucson, died Saturday, April 10 at Norman Regional Hospital in Norman, Oklahoma after complications from a fall on April 6. Private services will be held in Tucson at a later date. Millie was born June 2, 1923 in Kenora, Ontario, Canada to John and Esther Milliard. She dropped out of high school to help care for her four brothers and three sisters and was one of the first women in the work force when she supervised the blueprint shop at Canada Car, making Hawker Hurricane fighter airplanes for the Royal Air Force during World War II. She married Thomas E. Wheeler on July 17, 1953 in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada and moved with her husband and four sons to Tucson in 1965. After her husband's early death, Millie worked and raised her sons alone. She lived in Tucson for more than 37 years and moved to Norman, Oklahoma in March 2003. Millie enjoyed exercise, walking, and the company of friends and family. She was a devoted wife and mother, a humble, kind-hearted woman who is dearly loved by family and friends. Millie was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and her husband. Survivors include four sons and their families, Paul J. Wheeler of Kenora, Wayne W. Wheeler of San Diego, James R. Wheeler, with daughters, Amanda of Norman and Melanie of Kannapolis, North Carolina, and Ralph A. Wheeler, wife, Susan Walden and stepdaughters Amanda and Rachel Custer of Norman; and six brothers and sisters, Clarence "Bub" Milliard of New Liskard, Ontario, Katharine Henton, Ralph Milliard, and Don Milliard of Kenora, and Marge Sisson, and Adeline Trewin of Thunder Bay. In lieu of flowers, the family believes Millie would be pleased by contributions in her name to Independent Living Services for Youth; P.O. Box 5448; Norman, OK 73070.
