All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Mildred (Millie) Adeline Gerboth Zittel 06/25/03 Mildred (Millie) Adeline Gerboth Zittel, 86, of Albany, Ore., died Saturday, June 21, after an extended illness. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Norman with Father Richard Burris officiating. Mrs. Zittel was born Dec. 27, 1926, in New York City, to Florence and Walter Gerboth. After graduating from high school in New York City, she attended Emporia State Teacher's College in Kansas for two years. On June 14, 1947, she married Walter Robert Zittel whose family lived next door. They moved to Wichita, Kan., in 1956 with their young sons, David and Warren. A third son, Eric, was born in 1960. She worked for a number of years as an expediter of grain shipments for milling into flour for Garvey International and later for T.J. MacDonald in the same capacity. In 1977, she was selected for inclusion in the Who's Who of American Women. After her husband died, she moved to Claremore where she worked for T.J. MacDonald at the Port of Catoosa. In 1986, she retired and moved to Norman to live with her oldest son and his family. In 1988, she moved back to Wichita, Kan., and married Harry Lash who died in 1992. In 1996, following heart surgery, she moved to Albany, Ore., to be near her youngest son and his family. A lifelong member of the Episcopal Church, Mrs. Zittel attended St. John' s Episcopal Church while she lived in Norman. She was active in church choirs everywhere and in many other church service groups. She enjoyed hosting parties and meeting new people. She was a recorder player and enjoyed playing Renaissance duets for recorder and guitar. Mrs. Zittel was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Walter Gerboth Jr. Mildred is survived by her sons and their wives, David Zittel and Mary Meacham of Norman, Warren and Linda Zittel of El Cerrito, Calif., and Eric and Tammie Zittel of Albany, Ore.; grandchildren, Rosemary Meacham-Zittel of Norman, Kathryn, Karyn, Kristyn and Joshua Zittel of Albany, Ore., and Adam Zittel of El Cerrito, Calif.
