Their lineup is as follows: Manager - Don Lee Almack Utility Man - Robert Dyer Pitchers - Emil Janko and Warren Patrick Substitutes - Junior Janko, Alfred Porter, Bob Snook, Bob Thorne, Cliff Johnson, J.L. Unger Catchers - Winfred Abney and Wray Le Baron 1B - Bill Cardwell and J.F. Dyer 2B - Warren Fishburn 3B - Ted Wilson Short Stops - Melvin Rupe, Manuel Rath, Fred Thompson Fielders - Bill Russel, Denby Goodman and J.M. Jones Umpires - John Price, Bill Wilson, Earl Jones and Leo McMinn Score Keeper - George Hill FOURTH GRADE LaVern Sturdivant, Oleta Wright, and Jim Garrett made a grade of 100 per cent every day this week in spelling. SIXTH GRADE In a recent history class each member told the story of a famous ship. Some of the most interesting reports were: Hazel Knight's, Santa Maria; Earl Reynolds', Clermont; Bill Richardson's, Santa Maria; Jack Wallenberg's, Mayflower; Joe Wilson's, Half-Moon; Jim Janko's, Old Ironsides, and Billy Patrick's, Normandie. EIGHTH GRADE We told you last week that we would announce the winners of the American Legion award. We are proud to announce the girl, Doris Carter and the boy was Howard Jack. They were chosen by the rest of the Eighth grade boys and girls as the outstanding Eighth graders in Citizenship. JUNIOR NEWS In American literature some interesting novel reports were given by Paul Carnutt and Ira Stewart. Ira gave "The Virginian" and Paul gave "The Nigger of the Narcissus," by Joseph Conrad. HONORS AWARDED On the basis of superior scholarship, Hugh Payne was named valedictorian, and Herbert Turk salutatorian of the Senior class. For the first time in several years the boys of the class made a clean sweep of the honors. The third and fourth highest averages were boys also. At a special meeting of the faculty, Hebert Turk was voted as the best all around member of the Senior class and designated to receive the Balfour plaque. The award was made on the basis of scholarship, citizenship, participation in school activities, cooperation, loyalty, and achievement. ORATORICAL CONTEST Herbert Turk was awarded first place in the American Legion oratorical contest elimination contest held last week at Moore High School. There were 16 entries in the contest. JUNIOR-SENIOR BANQUET The Junior-Senior banquet was given Thursday evening. The following program was given, with Ira Stewart acting as toastmaster: "Call of the Wild", Ida Mae Matthews "Heeding the Call," Mildred Estes. "The Wanderers," Morris McCarver "Fortune Telling," J.B. Martin "The Open Road," Mr. Chester Anderson. Herbert Turk substituted in the absence of Mr.Anderson. "Looking to the Future," Board of Education. Music was furnished by the following members of the Sophomore class: Kole McGonagle, Jimmy Cummings, Lorene Payne, Martee Stout, Mildred Lichnovsky, Velda Cheatwood, and Dorthy Hart. "The Life of the Roving Gypsies" as the theme for this banquet. The music was of gypsy origin and the waitresses were dressed in gypsy costume. The following gypsies opened the program with a gypsy dance and then served the tables: Beulah Mae Howard, Mildred Christofferson, Evelyn Stevenson, Mary Frances Writht, Nadine Homer, Lola Gene Campbell, Mary Ellen Wilson, Ruby Marsh, Lorraine Smart, and Rita Dreessen.
