Adair Age 81, Lawton - Graveside service will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday at Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin. Mr. Adair died Saturday in a local hospital. Burial will be under the direction of Becker Funeral Home. He was born July 19, 1923 in Adair, Oklahoma to Herron and Minnie Thompson Adair. He grew up in Pryor but graduated from high school in Shidler in 1940. He married Mary E. Flores on November 5, 1949 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He enlisted in the United States Navy on November 5, 1940 in Portsmouth, Virginia, and served with distinction in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a naval hospital corpsman assigned to the 2nd Marine Division, seeing action at Guadalcanal, Tarawa, and Okinawa. He was also awarded the Bronze Star for valorous service in Saipan. After his retirement from the Navy as Senior Chief Petty Officer on May 31, 1960, he worked as a sales representative for Strasenburgh Pharmaceuticals in Little Rock, Arkansas before moving to Lawton in 1961. He worked as purchasing agent and assistant administrator at Southwestern Hospital from 1961 – 66. From 1966 – 77 he served as administrator of Talley-Walker Hospital in Marlow, and from 1979 until his retirement in 1984 he served as administrator of Tri-County Hospital in Carnegie. Survivors include his wife Mary, of the home; two sons and daughters-in- law: Robert and Sara Adair, Dayton, Ohio; and John and Teresa Adair; Lawton; two daughters: Jeanie Caldwell and her husband Jody, Lawton, and Lucy Petty, Fort Worth, Texas; a brother Paul Howard Adair, Locust Grove; five grandchildren: Ronald Keith Deck, Fort Worth, Texas; Kathleen Jane Adair, Phoenix, Arizona; Clinton Charles Petty, Norman; Hayley Dawn Caldwell, Lawton; and Craig Caldwell, Lawton; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
