Gregory J. Hall, pastor, officiating. Mr. Boyden died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at a local hospital. Arrangements are by Jefferson Funeral Home Inc. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home. ========= Lawton Constitution 23 Mar 2003 Lavelle C. Boyden Sr. Funeral for retired Staff Sgt. Lavelle C. Boyden Sr., 75, Lawton, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Gregory J. Hall, pastor, officiating. Staff Sgt. Boyden died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, in a local hospital. Inurnment with military honors will be at Fort Sill Post Cemetery at 11 a.m. Wednesday under direction of Jefferson Funeral Home. He was born March 28, 1927, in Braddock, Penn., to Charles and Clara Boyden. He attended public schools in Pittsburgh. He moved to Lawton from Germany in 1967. He served a three-year tour with the U.S. Navy during World War II and later joined the U.S. Army, serving for 23 years before retiring in 1967. He married Dorothy Richardson who died in 1983. He was employed with Fort Sill Civil Service. He graduated from Cameron University in 1978 with a bachelor of science degree. He was named Oklahoma State Umpire in Chief and inducted into the Softball Hall of Fame and the Southwest Oklahoma Basketball Officiating Hall of Fame. Survivors include a son, Lavelle C. Boyden Jr. and wife Ethel of Los Angeles, Calif.; three grandchildren: Billie Anderson, Charles Boyden and Lesley Boyden; and two great-grandchildren: Kalani Boyden and Kyleigh Neitzke. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Melvin; and a sister, Betty.
