All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Becker Funeral Home 13 Feb 2005 MSG (Retired) Donald Roger Bly Age 67, Elgin, Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Thursday in the Paradise Valley Baptist Church, with Rev. Donny Crittendon, Pastor, Paradise Valley Baptist Church, North of Lawton, officiating. Sergeant Bly died Sunday at his residence. Burial with full military honors will be in the Paradise Valley Cemetery under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home. He was born on August 18, 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio to Orvey Loyal and Grace (Fillsius) Bly. He enlisted into the US Army and fought during the Vietnam War. He also had tours in Germany, Panama and Korea. He retired from the Army at Fort Sill on February 29, 1980, after 24 ½ years of service. He received numerous medals including the Good Conduct Medal (7th award), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Mechanic Badge, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Service Star, two Overseas Service Bars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, Meritorious Service Medal and the Bronze Star Medal. He worked with different contractors for civil service until 1990. He married Betty L. Ray in San Diego, California on December 27, 1986. He attended Paradise Valley Baptist Church and was a member of the Mount Scott Masonic Lodge #540 and the Order of the Eastern Star in Elgin. Survivors include his wife of the home; two stepsons, Grant Conner and his wife, Amber, and Mark Gilley and his wife, Marti, all of Elgin; three stepdaughters, Rhonda Gilley of Elgin; Cheryle Bell and her husband, Don, of Houston, Texas; and Carol Meyer and her husband, David of Elgin; seven granddaughters and seven grandsons; a brother, Gordon Bly of Brunswick, Ohio; a sister, Lois England of Ocala, Florida; a mother-in-law, Christina Neely of Temple; 2 step sisters, Carla Liberty and husband Frank, Brunswick, Ohio, and Betty Lanzilotta and husband Frank, Florida; four brothers-in-law, Don Schafer and his wife, Sue, Panama City, Florida; Al Schafer and his wife, Dalora, of Luther; Isaac Higgins and his wife, Michelle, of El Paso, Texas; and Dale Rambo and his wife, Debbie, of Temple; two nieces, Pat Kerr and her husband, Dean, of Oklahoma City; and Gloria Ward of Medina, Ohio; a nephew, Bob Bly and his wife, Mickey, of Ohio; and numerous other nieces, nephews and uncles. His parents, a brother and a sister preceded him in death.
