Bowen, Peggy Edythe Stephens Peggy Edythe Stephens Bowen, 85, of Ukiah passed away January 24, 2007 at Ukiah Valley Medical Center with her family present. Peggy was born June 22, 1921 in Lawton, Okla. She had lived 22 years in Mendocino County and 12 years at Walnut Village in Ukiah. Peggy graduated from Lawton High School; she married her husband Richard Chaffey Bowen August 3, 1943. Peggy was a homemaker and a Country Store owner with her husband in Isle, Minnesota. She was proud of her children, her grandchildren, her knitting, sewing and her involvement with Community Theater Dancing. Peggy was active in the Potter Valley Garden Club, St. Louis Park Swim Team and the St. Louis Park Community Theater. Peggy served her country during WWII in the Army WAACS from November 5, 1942 - August 19, 1943. She was always honored on Mother's Day and was a Nanny to many Potter Valley children and families. The family said "we never doubted the loving care our sister Mary Esenbock and husband Bill and grandson Will gave her the past 22 years". Peggy would often say "my children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren are worth more than possessions", and "Holy Mackerel!" Peggy is survived by her daughters Mary Bowen Esenbock and husband Bill of Potter Valley, Penny Eileen Bowen of Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin, Barb Bowen Lemm and husband Fred of Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin, sons Michael Paul Bowen and wife Teri of Port Hadlock, Wa., Richard William Bowen and wife Patrica of Sequim, Wa., sister Jean Stephens Tempfer, grandchildren Jessica Detlefsen-Manor, Erica Detlefsen Crumb, Will Esenbock, Jon V. Bowen, Melissa Bowen, Sumiko Bowen Medori Bowen, Erik Helgesen, Lars Helgesen, Kristi Lemm, Alexis and Heather Bowen, great-grandchildren Kristian, Kimberly, Tyler, Matthew, Mellanie and Adam, also good friend & senior companion Joan Martella, friend Teresa Tempfer Brotherton and Chloe her cat. Peggy was preceded in death by her father Paul Stephens, mother Margaret H. Saddler and her husband Richard C. Bowen. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 2:00 PM with Bishop Carl Morgensen officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Ukiah Senior Center in Peggy's name. Arrangements are under the direction of the Eversole Mortuary 462- 2206.
