All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Boyer Funeral Slated Today Funeral services for Charles E Boyer, aged Lawton resident, will be held at 2:30pm today at the Ritter Funeral home. Mr Boyer was 81 years of age and a resident of Lawton since 1917. He served in the Eighth Cavalry at Ft Clark, TX from 1882 to 1887. Since 1920 he has been active in the Masonic lodge and the DeMolay order. Following the service conducted by Rev Lamb the Rose Croix, the 18th degree of the Scottish Rite service will be given. DeMolay members, Charles Spencer, Marvin Trope, John Henry Cope, Louis Gorman, Sylvan Hansen and Ben Horton have been selected as bearers. The DeMolay order will present their burial ritual at the grave. Chapter members are to meet at the Masonic Temple at 2pm and attend the services in a group. A firing squad and bugler will do him honor following the DeMolay ritual. Burial will be made in the Masonic plot in Highland cemetery. ============ DeMolays Hold Last Rites for Charles Boyer Funeral services for Charles E Boyer, well known Lawton resident, were held at 2:30pm Wednesday at the Ritter Funeral home. He died Monday. Mr Boyer came to Lawton in January 1917, and was an employee of the Quartermaster at Fort Sill until injured in July 1931. In 1920 he joined the Lawton Masonic Lodge and was an active worker in that order. He organized the DeMolay order and was chief advisor for the first 12 years. The services were conducted by Rev John H Lamb, and were well attended. The DeMolays attended in a body and there was a large delegation from the Masonic order. Funeral selections were sung by Mrs T R Keegan and Mss Oleta Horton with Mrs George A Horton as pianist. Following this service the Rose Croix, the 18th degree of the Scottish Rite branch of the Masonic order was given. This was able and impressively presented by Frank A Derr and J W Bickwell of Guthrie, Elmer Davis of Anadarko, Lee P McCarter, Leonard Oliver, William Sheridan and John Cahay of Fort Sill, and R A Yeilding and John Stevenson, both of Lawton. The musical selections of this degree were sung by Miss Barbara Lutz, Miss LaVerne Swackhammer, Miss Evelyn Swackhammer and tom Porter, with Mrs H Ben Turner as pianist. Bearers serving were Charles Spencer, Marvin Trope, John H Cope, Louis Gorman, Sylvan Hansen and Ben Horton. At the grave the DeMolay burial ritual was used, Master Councilor Charles Spencer, Marshal Marvin Trope, Senior Deacon John Cope, Junior Councilor Louis Gorman, Senior Councilor Sylvan Hansen, and Chaplain Ben Horton. A firing squad from Company K 29th Infantry, from Fort Sill fired the salute of honor, taps were sounded by Bugler C W Ledlow. (handwritten on newspaper article: “died Mon Jan 30-1939”) ========= Charles Boyer, Dies in Lawton 81-year-old Man Formerly in Army; Employed at Fort Sill, Too Charles E Boyer, 81, died at his home, 613 Summit Avenue at 8:30 pm Monday following an extended illness. Born in Indiana (crossed out – handwritten on newspaper article: Maryland) He was born in Cicel county, Ind. (MD) Sept 17, 1857, enlisted in the 8th Cavalry in 1882 and was stationed at Fort Clark TX. He was discharged in 1887. He was married to Miss Pauline Froga in December 1887 in Philadelphia PA. Following her death he came here, being employed at Fort Sill in the Quartermaster Utilities from January 1917 until he was injured July 29, 1931. Except from 1935 to 1937 he has resided here. Early in life he united with the Methodist church but of late years had not been an active member. In 1920 he joined the local Masonic lodge; was also a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Shrine. He organized the DeMolay lodge and for 12 years was the chief advisor of that organization. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs Emma Reinhart of Hatfield PA, a brother William O Boyer, of Lawton; a grandson, George Perkis also of Lawton; also two other grandsons and four granddaughters all residing in Philadelphia and other relatives. Funeral Wednesday Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm Wednesday at the Ritter funeral home with rev John H Lamb pastor of the 1st Presbyterian Church conducting the services. A firing squad was arranged for Tues to officiate at a military funeral for Mr Boyer who served in the US Cavalry five years, 1882-1887. Bearers will be selected from the DeMolay lodge, and the DeMolays will have charge of the services at the grave. Burial will be made in Highland cemetery with Rev Lamb in charge of the committal rites. The many friends of Mr Boyer sympathize with the members of his family in their sorrow.
