Mr. Burk died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at a local hospital. ========= Lawton Constitution 4 Jan 2003 Sidney M. Burk Funeral for Sidney "S.M." Burk, 68, Lawton, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church East with the Rev. Doug Passmore, pastor, officiating. Mr. Burk died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003 at his home. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery under direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. He was born Aug. 8, 1934 in Lawton, to Clarence and Myrtle Young Burk. He attended Whittier Elementary School, Central Junior High School, and graduated from Lawton High School in 1951. He received his bachelor's degree in Forth Worth, Texas. He served in the United States Army from Jan. 14, 1957 to January 1959. He married Peggy Berryman April 1, 1972, in Holdenville. He owned and operated S.M. Burk Mechanical Contractors in Lawton for more than 40 years. While serving as an apprentice, he competed in and won the Texas State Plumbing and pipe fitting contest three straight years. After that, he competed in the United National Journeymen and Apprentice Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Contest in the United States and Canada, and placed third in the nation. He was a member of the Local Plumbers Union. He was listed as an honored professional in the National Directory of Who's Who in the Executive and Professional 1996-1997 Edition. Survivors include his wife of the home; four sons and two daughters-in- law: Jay Ron Burk, Bobby Burk, and Chris and Jannet Burk, all of Lawton; and Sidney Burk Junior and Dana Burk, Newport News, Va.; two daughters: Amber Miller, Lawton; and Susan Perry, Yukon; a brother: Joe Burk, Oklahoma City; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Sherry and Leonard Lindsey, Heber Springs, Ark.; and Nikki and Thomas Robinson, Oviedo, Fla.; mother-in-law: Velma Berryman, Lawton; five grandchildren: Sydnie Dawn Landers, Devon Lloyd, Schyler Burk, Ridge Miller, and Cade Burk, all of Lawton; six uncles and their wives: Neil and Lois Burk, Geronimo; Jake and Violet Burk, Cache; Gene and Geraldine Burk, and Wayne and Joy Burk, all of Lawton; Howard and Dean Burk, Cederville, Texas;Tommy and Betty Burk, Duncan; and Welton and Joyce Burk, McFarland, Calif.; and many aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
