All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Roosevelt Cemetery--Roosevelt OK Lawton Constitution 02 Jun 2003 Sylvester Brazzel Funeral for Sylvester Brazzel, 84, Lawton, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Larry Thoma, pastor, First Assembly of God, Elgin, officiating. Mr. Brazzel died Thursday, May 29, 2003, in Lawton. Burial will be at Roosevelt Cemetery, Roosevelt. He was born Feb. 3, 1919, in Kemp, Texas, to Edmund Dugan and Maude Frankie Brazzel. He moved to the Roosevelt area at the age of 10 and attended Komalte and Consolidated Eight schools. He worked on the family farm near Roosevelt until he and his brother joined the National Youth Administration, where they learned carpentry skills. He later joined the Civilian Conversation Corps and was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II, serving overseas in New Guinea, France and the Philippine Islands. After his discharge in 1945, he returned to the Roosevelt area, working construction in the area and for the Frisco Railroad. He and his mother moved to Lawton in 1960 and he worked construction and was a member of the Laborers International of North America Local No. 495. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Survivors include a brother, Roy E. Brazzel, Lawton; three nephews: David Howard "Red" Baggett, C.H. and James Brazzel, all of Lawton; a niece, Mary Ann Brazzel, Lawton; 14 great-nieces and nephews: Kelli, Kevin and Ashley Brazzel, Jenifer Stamper, Lara Pesek, Craig Saunders, Lori Merritt, Charles Ross "Chuckie" Baggett, III, David Michael Baggett, Kenneth Ray Baggett, Richard Harris, Ricky Joe Harris, Mark Harris and Penny Harris- Tollison, several great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Willie, Rufus, Maynard and Claude; a sister, Lula Baggett; three nephews: Gary Wayne Brazzel, Charles Ross Baggett Jr., and Dickie Joe Harris; and a great niece, Brandy Baggett.
