Burt Funeral for Walter T. Burt, 78, Lawton, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Billy Bone officiating. Mr. Burt died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, at a Lawton nursing center. Burial with Navy honors will be at Fairlawn Cemetery, Snyder. He was born March 1, 1924, in Nocona, Texas, to George and Jennie Mae Burt. He moved to Oklahoma as a small child. He spent 2 years and 7 months in the Navy during World War II. He served on an aircraft carrier in the South Pacific. He married Ruby Faye Tidmore in 1945, and after her death he married Billie Joan Haining on April 17, 1953, in Lawton. They lived in Electra, Texas; Dill City, Okla.; and the Porter Hill area before moving to Lawton four years ago. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 193. He served on the Stoney Point School Board and the Comanche County Rural Water District No. 2 board. He was an electrician and had retired from civil service at Fort Sill in 1978. He was a member of Paradise Valley Baptist Church. Survivors include, his wife, of the home; six daughters and two sons-in- law: Dawna Burt, Midwest City; Kaye and Edwin Morgan, Roosevelt; Anna and Joe Mack Hamilton, DeKalb, Texas; Holli Johnson, Oakwood, Ill.; Janet Shelton, Elgin; and Paula White, of the home; a sister, Loretta Goundie, Portland, Ore.; three brothers: Deroy, Rancho Cordova, Calif.; Don, Oklahoma City; and Henry, Clinton; two sisters-in-law: Juanita Young, Oklahoma City; and Dovie Ramsey, Snyder; nine grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, a sister, a brother, two half sisters and a half brother.
