Borders Funeral for retired 1st Sgt. Horace E. Borders, 79, Lawton, is pending with Jefferson Funeral Home. Sgt. Borders died Thursday, May 15, 2003, at a local hospital. ========= Lawton Consitituion 19 May 2003 Horace Edward Borders Funeral for retired 1st Sgt. Horace Edward Borders, 79, Lawton, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael D. Logan officiating. Mr. Borders died Thursday, May 15, 2003, at a local hospital. Burial with military honors will be at Fort Sill Post Cemetery under direction of Jefferson Funeral Home. Wake service will be from 7-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. He was born June 22, 1923, in Jefferson, Ga., to George and Lenora Borders. He moved to Lawton in 1949 from Major’s Field, Texas, and married Fayrine Borders. He served as church treasurer at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church and was a member of the NAACP, Mistletoe Lodge No. 31, the American Legion, the American Bowling Congress and the Froggs Club. Survivors include three daughters: Billie F. Kersey, Indianapolis; Lynell Borders, Redding, Calif.; and Katherine Gooden, Lawton; three sons: Horace Borders Jr. and Joseph, both of Mesquite, Texas; and Joshua, Oklahoma City; a sister, Bernice Roosevelt Daniels, Fayetteville, N.C.; four brothers and three sisters-in-law: Robert and Lula Borders, Winder, Ga.; Joseph Borders; Jefferson Borders, Georgia; and George and Catherine Borders and Milton and Linda Borders, all of Dayton, Ohio; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and four great-great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.
