All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Lawton Consitituion 8 Oct 2004 Iris Pauline 'Paula' Brown HOUSTON -- Memorial Service for former Lawton resident Iris Pauline "Paula" Brown, 87, Houston, will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with the Rev. James D.M. Stafford, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Brown died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, in Houston. Arrangements are under direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. She was born Sept. 17, 1917, in Loveland, to William P. and Adelia Bell Conway Hunt. She graduated from Hollister High School and attended Saint Joseph's School of Nursing in Fort Worth, Texas. Upon graduating from nursing school, she was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. She served in Hawaii and the Philippines during World War II. She was one of five children in her family on active duty during the war. She married Lloyd C. Brown on Dec. 10, 1948. She and her husband traveled with his military career to Germany, New York, Korea and Tennessee. He retired in October 1964, and the family moved to Lawton. He died April 14, 1989. She moved to Springfield, Ill., in 1993, and to Houston in 1995. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Paul Hunt Brown and Pam, Springfield; a daughter and son-in-law, Shadow Sloan and Harvey Vigneault, Houston; nine grandchildren: Scott, Kelly and Jamie Brown, Springfield; Ross Sloan and his wife, Emilee, Dallas; and Cody Sloan, Lauren, Clinton, Dillon and Griffin Brown, all of Houston; two great-grandchildren: Sam and Rowan Sloan; Dallas; a sister, Hattie Washburn, Frederick; three brothers and sisters-in-law: Ed and Clara Hunt, Lawton; Kennith and Anna May Hunt, Grandfield; and Caroll and Mariam Hunt, Edmond; and many nieces and nephews in Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee and Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Conway Brown; two brothers; and three sisters: including Opal "Jackie" Keith.
