All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Becker Funeral Home, Inc. - Lawton OK :Sunset Memorial Gardens--Lawton OK Dorothy Ione Burns Age 89, Lawton, Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. William F. Todd, senior pastor, Centenary United Methodist Church, officiating. Mrs. Burns died Wednesday in a local care center. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Gardens. She was born on April 19, 1915 in Pittsburg, Texas to J Tom and Gladys (Allen) Laney. She married John Raymond Burns on October 25, 1931. He died on May 30, 1975. Dorothy was a homemaker and also assisted her husband at Burns-Ford Drug in Lawton. She was responsible for passing Camp Fire Girls in their ranks at one time and had served as the social chairman of the Lawton Camp Fire Council. She was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church and the Builders’ Sunday School class. Survivors include her daughter, Marcille Southerland-Covey of Lawton; two grandsons, Steve Southerland of Lawton and Paul B. Southerland and his wife, Becky, of Oklahoma City; seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Her son, John Thomas Burns, a grandson, Richard Laney Southerland, and a sister, Virginia Lake, preceded her in death. Memorial contributions may be made to the Centenary United Methodist Church Building Fund, 704 SW ‘D’ Avenue, Lawton, Oklahoma 73501.
