The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ==================================================================== Mrs. Laura Alice Brandon, 72-year-old Lawton pioneer, died at 6:30 p.m. Sunday (02 November 1941) at her home, 1002 I Avenue. She had been ill for two or three weeks. Funeral rites were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church, of which she was a charter member. The Rev. Oren C. Reid, pastor, was assisted by the Rev. A. M. Brown in conducting the service. Burial was in Highland Cemetery where the Lawton Rebekah Lodge officiated at the final rites. The Comanche County Courthouse closed at noon Tuesday and remained closed throughout the afternoon in respect to Mrs. Brandon, mother of County Commissioner Pat Brandon. The Brandons are one of Lawton's best known families. Mrs. Brandon and her husband, the late J. J. Brandon, who died 06 October 1939, came to Lawton in July 1901. The couple was married in 1883. Mrs. Brandon is survived by ten children, all of whom live in Lawton with the exception of Jerry, who lives in Waurika. The others are Mrs. Allie Young, Mrs. Viola Witsil, Mrs. Julia Wester, Mrs. Sam Crandall, Mrs. J. A. Hanks, and Pat, Earl, Mike, and James Brandon. Other survivors are 11 sisters and brothers, 27 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Three brothers, J. L., E. M., and E. T. Daulton, and a sister, Miss Dora Daulton, are Lawton residents. The Becker Funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Ross Hanks, Frank Gold, Carl Froneberger, Dan Walding, George Bounds and D.
