All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Lawton Constitution 3 Mar 2003 Walter Barnett ELGIN - Funeral for Walter Emory Barnett, 83, Elgin, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elgin First Baptist Church with Adraine Smith, Sterling, and the Rev. Kenneth Hayes, Lawton, officiating. Mr. Barnett died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at a Lawton hospital. Burial with military honors will be at Elgin Memorial Cemetery under direction of Hodge Funeral Home, Fletcher. He was born Sept. 19, 1919, in Durant. He grew up in Durant and Sterling. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1941-45 in Kumming and Kwelin, China. He married Olivene Berryhill on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1945, in Roswell, N.M. He later moved to Elgin, where he was employed in civil service at Fort Sill. He retired in 1972. He also worked at Smith's Garage and Barnett's Garage in Elgin. He was a member of Elgin First Baptist Church, Elgin Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion of Fletcher. Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter, Velma Barton and her husband Bob, Oklahoma City; a son, Phillip Barnett and his wife, Janie, Elgin; three grandchildren: Erica Johns and her husband John, Lorri Durbin and her husband Troy and Racheal Kuhlman and her husband Jason; two great- grandchildren: Kaitlyn Johns and Austin Kuhlman; two sisters: Mary Mantooth and her husband Ray and Lorena Jeffreys, all of Sterling; and two brothers: Billy Barnett, Oklahoma City; and Charlie Barnett, Portland, Ore.
