All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::NOT LISTED Cowie, Nancy Barbara Nov. 10, 1948 - Nov. 17, 2006 Nancy Cowie passed away in Alamo, CA, hand in hand with her son, Friday, Nov. 17th, one week after her 58th birthday. Nancy, after her nearly one-year long stand against cancer, lost this battle. Nancy was often heard, even in the days before she passed, saying "Thank you, God, for all of my blessings," and she was very appreciative of her life. According to Nancy, she lived in "God's Country" for over 35 years, Arcata, CA, near Oregon. Her last months were spent at the home of her son, Mikal Brevig, and daughter-in-law, Kitty, in Vallejo, where she received many visitors from Oregon and throughout California. She received care at HODC, HCBHP, UCSF and ultimately from Hospice of Contra Costa. This wonderful care and to be with her son were her final earthly blessings received. Nancy knew she was going to Heaven and looked forward to meeting up with her beloved Everett who preceded her. Nancy was born at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma. She attended Lawton High, and often communicated with people from her home town. Nancy's last employer was Toni's Restaurant in Arcata, where she thoroughly enjoyed serving her many customers-friends and working with great people. Nancy was a collector and she was best known for collecting teddy bears. Many of her customers and friends would give them to her and she would add them to the "Bear Room," where over 400 of the stuffed toys resided. She had bears for every season and would decorate her home with them. Nancy's greatest source of pride and teammate in life was her son, Mikal, of Vallejo. Theirs was a relationship that was all encompassing. Their mutual pride, affection, loyalty, and concern for one another was her first and most rewarding pleasure. Mikal describes his mother as "terminally happy," kind and considerate, quick with a smile, slow to criticize and as someone whose interest in others was as steadfast as it was genuine. Nancy loved people as if they were family. She loved her independence, however she loved to visit with people even more. Her small family and list of friends transcends age groups and spans the country as well as the other continents. Mom will be missed tremendously by all who knew her. She leaves a huge void in so many of our lives. Thank you, Mom, for life, your friendship, and the blessing of you. May God bless you until we meet again. You're safe, I love you. Contributions can be made to: Hospice of Contra Costa, 3470 Buskirk Ave., Pleasant Hill, CA 94523; or Hospice of Humboldt, 2010 Myrtle Ave., Eureka, CA 95501 Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, at Twin Chapels Mortuary, 1100 Tennessee St., Vallejo. A celebration of life will also be held in her home town at a later date.
