Mr. Copus died Sunday, March 16, 2003, in Lawton. ========= Lawton Constitution 20 Mar 2003 Richard Charles Copus Graveside service with military honors for Richard Charles Copus, 58, Lawton, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Fort Sill Post Cemetery with Chaplain Maj. Johnny Messer officiating. Mr. Copus died Sunday, March 16, 2003, in Lawton. Arrangements are by Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service. He was born Nov. 3, 1944, in Boscobel, Wis., to Elsie Copus and Howard Copus. He served in the Army for more than 20 years, and retired Nov. 30, 1983, with the rank of first sergeant. He was stationed at various military posts in the United States and overseas. Awards he received include the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with six service stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with palm leaf, Army of Occupation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with fifth oak leaf clustor, three overseas service Bars, Bronze Star Medal with first oak leaf cluster, Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal Sixth Award, Expert (Carbine), Expert (pistol.45), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon-5 and Expert (Rifle M-16) Ribbon- 4. He was a member of the Presbyterian church.
