All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Lawton Constitution 1 & 2 Jul 2005 Bessie Cofer Funeral for Bessie Cofer, 92, Lawton, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Cofer died Thursday, June 30, 2005, in Lawton. Burial will be at 5 p.m. in Eldorado Cemetery, Eldorado. She was born Dec. 28, 1912, in Marshall County near Quanah, Texas, to William Harrison and Martha Elizabeth Slagle Caldwell. She and her family moved to Oklahoma while she was a small child. While in school she was a Rainbow Girl. She married Ray Cofer on June 24, 1931, in Hollis. He died Feb. 23, 1993. She held office in various civic and local clubs, including the Extension Homemakers Club, Historical Society and Business and Professional Women's Club. She was a homemaker and a member of Eldorado First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Home Builder's Sunday School Class and the Women's Missionary Union. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Glendon and Marlene Cofer, Lawton; a daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Don Singleton, Sarasota, Fla.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great- grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Arthur Caldwell, Fred Caldwell, Don Caldwell and Claude Caldwell; and two sisters: Dora Welshhans and Effie Beach.
