'Buck' Cole Memorial service for retired Master Sgt. Lee S. "Buck" Cole, 72, Lawton, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with a military chaplain officiating. Master Sgt. Cole died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, at his home. Arrangements are by Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. Lee "Buck" Cole was born July 10, 1931, in Mercer, Pa., to Francis Lynn and Bertha Elizabeth O'Connor Cole. He joined the U.S. Army in 1949 and retired in August 1975 after 26 years of service. He served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. His medals include the Army Commendation Medal 1st OLC, National Defense Service Medal 1st OLC, Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal 1st Class, Good Conduct Medal (1st-5th Awards), Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, Bronze Star Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation Badge, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Medal, Valorous Unit Award, and Meritorious Unit Citation. He married Nam Soon Yu in Seoul, Korea, on May 11, 1964. He graduated from Cameron University in May 1984 with bachelor's degrees in science and business. Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet Lynn Cole-Barnes and William Barnes, Cleburne, Texas; a former son-in-law: Kevin Byers, Springtown, Texas; a godson: Joseph Freeman Caswell; a goddaughter: Echo Faith Caswell; two sisters: Ellen Kovatch, Pittsburgh; and Ruth Hennegan, California; three grandchildren: Garrett Lee Byers, Haley Erin Byers, and Robert Chet Barnes; and many friends.
