"Jim" Carr Age 84, Lawton - Services will be 1:30 PM Monday in the Letitia Baptist Church, East of Lawton, with Rev. Eldon Archer, Pastor, Chickasaw Trail Baptist Church, Davis, and Rev. Bubba Clark, Pastor, Letitia Baptist Church, officiating. Mr. Carr died on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at his home. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home. He was born on November 28, 1921 in Garnett, Oklahoma to James Joseph and Effie Elmira (Young) Carr, Sr. He married Lillie Walbrick in Geronimo on September 13, 1942. He entered the US Army in September of 1942 and served during World War II. He served as a Platoon Sergeant for the 5307 Composite Unit of Merrill's Marauders in Burma in 1942. He was honorably discharged in November of 1945 and received numerous medals including the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal and the Purple Heart. Jim worked for civil service at Fort Sill as the Assistant Warehouse Superintendent for Supply and Service. He retired on June 29, 1973. He owned and operated the C&L Lawnmower Shop for over 30 years. He was a coach for little league baseball for 15 years and was the heart and soul of the C&L Racing Team at the Lawton Speedway. He was a member of the Letitia Baptist Church and taught the Men's Sunday School Class. Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters and sons-in- law, Patsy Lytle and Jack and Nancy E. Morris and Tom, all of Lawton; four grandchildren, Shelley E. Lytle and her husband, Patrick Hill, Dusty T. Lytle and his wife, Kristie, Charlie Morris and Misti Cox, all of Lawton; six great grandchildren, Nic Lytle, Samantha Hill, Danci Lytle, Delani Lytle, Riley McKinney and Amani McKinney; a sister, Alice L. Miller of Lawton; and numerous other family and friends. Six brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
