Carter TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Lewis A. Carter, 78, died Friday, Nov. 27, 1998. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Dunn Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Wes Stewart, minister of Temple Baptist Church, officiating. Cremation was prior to the services. Mr. Carter was born in Lawton, Okla., and served in the Army during World War II. He moved to Tucumcari in 1996 from Logan. He moved to Logan in 1981 from Clovis. Mr. Carter was employed as a conductor by the Santa Fe Railroad for 38 years. In Logan, he owned and operated the Carter Boat Storage facility. He was a member of the Railroad Trainman, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3280 of Clovis and the American Legion Post No. 77 in Logan. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; four sons, Alvin Carter of Glenn Burney, Md., J.D. Carter of Fort Worth, Bruce Wayne Carter of Damascus, Md., and George Shafer of Murray, Utah.; a halfbrother, Roy Carter of Hereford, Texas; a sister, Kyra Bain of Windsor, Colo.; and four grandchildren.
