Crowell Funeral for retired Command Sgt. Maj. Clifton W. Crowell, 83, Lawton, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Bratcher Funeral Home Chapel, Denison, Texas. Sgt. Maj. Crowell died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at a local hospital. Burial with military honors will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Wolfe City, Texas. Local arrangements are with Becker Funeral Home. He was born March 11, 1920, in Wolfe City. He married Betty Faye Gardner in Wolfe City. She died Nov. 23, 1993. He married Marie Mitchell on Sept. 19, 1996, in Denison. He served 21 years in the Army, and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He received three purple hearts and a Presidential Citation. He was a member of Cameron Baptist Church and the First Calvary Division. Survivors include his wife, of the home; five children: Linda Schmidlkofer and her husband, John, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; Don Crowell and his wife, Pat, Memphis, Tenn.; Cliff Crowell and his wife, Rachel, San Antonio; Glenna Norris and her husband, Anthony, Wolfe City, Texas; and Tim Crowell, Mexia, Texas; a brother, Paul Crowell and his wife, Sue, Greenville, Texas, two sisters: Faye Lumis and Betty Owens and her husband, Gerald, all of Denison; eight grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren.
