Major Gene Hubert Day, 71, Lawton, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Union Baptist Church with Dr. C.W. Whitlow, pastor, officiating. A wake service will be from 7-8 p.m. Thursday at Jefferson Funeral Home. Sgt. Major Day died Friday, April 11, 2003, at his home. Burial with military honors will be at Fort Sill Post Cemetery under direction of Jefferson Funeral Home. He was born June 14, 1931, in Pine Bluff, Ark., to Joseph Sr. and Christona Day. He grew up in Pine Bluff and graduated from Merrill High School. He attended Arkansas A M&N College, and came to Lawton in 1952 from Pine Bluff. He married Wilma Keith on March 26, 1986, in Lawton. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and retired from the Army after 30 years of honorable service. Military awards he received include National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four service stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Third Award Meritorious Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal 10th Award, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Non-Comissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon-2, and four Overseas Service Bars. He retired from Telos Corporation, and later worked for Northrup Corporation. He was a member of Union Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons: Ronald Day and his wife, Lavonne, New York; Michael Day, U.S. Army, Germany; and Gerald Day, Oklahoma City; a daughter, Karen Harris and her husband, Grayland, San Antonio; two stepdaughters: Anita Simpson and her husband, Devan, Houston; and Hazel Chatman, Lawton; a brother, Fred Day and his wife, Thelma, Grand Blanc, Mich.; a sister, Juanita Allmon and her husband, Roger, Chicago, Ill.; three grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat- grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Un Sun Day, Detroit, Mich.; and Lois Day, Pine Bluff; five nieces; a nephew; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.
