Dunford Sept. 21, 1909 - April 30, 2002 Funeral for Lon M. Dunford, 92, Lawton, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with Dr. William F. Watkins and the Rev. Tom Willoughby, First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Dave Drennan, Four Square Church, Denison, Texas, officiating. Mr. Dunford died Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at a local hospital. Burial will be at Floral Haven Cemetery, Broken Arrow, under direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. He was born Sept. 21, 1909, in Louisville, Ky., to Clarence A. and Ella Mae Cooper Dunford. He graduated from Male High School, Louisville. He attended school at the University of Alabama and Vanderbilt University. At age 70, he was awarded a degree in practical theology from Christ for the Nations in Dallas. He was district traffic manager for the L&N Railroad — which became Seaboard Coastline Railroad and later CSX Transportation — for 42˘ years, retiring in 1971. He married Marie Gray on Aug. 25, 1932, in Louisville. She died in 1971. He married Rebecca Pierce Rich on Aug. 11, 1972, in Hampton, Va. He was a member of First Baptist Church and sang in the Primetimers Senior Choir for many years. He was a Baptist deacon for more than 40 years in Kentucky and Alabama. He was president of the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship in Lawton in 1976 and 1977. He also was chairman for Oklahoma Champs Farthest Out, a spiritual retreat, from 1977-78. Survivors include his wife, of the home; three daughters and four sons-in- law: Joy Dowis and Dale McPherron and Yvonne Marie and John Parks, all of Broken Arrow; Carlonna Sue and L.D. Robinson, Guthrie; and Ramon Ford, Carrollton, Texas; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Lauren Sue and Clayton Wilkerson, New Bern, N.C.; a stepson and daughter-in-law, Toby and Robyn Rich, Lambertville, N.J.; a sister, Verna Mae Stromowsky, Louisville; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
