All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Lawton Constitution 23 Nov 2003 Georgia Hanks Dyer HAMILTON, Mont. — Word has been received of the death of former Lawton resident Georgia Medreth Hanks Dyer, 80, Hamilton, Mont. Mrs. Dyer died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, in Hamilton. A memorial service and private urn placement will take place at a later date. She was born Aug. 29, 1923, in Lawton, to Ross and Medreth Vaughan Hanks. She graduated from Lawton High School in 1943. Following high school she went to Wilmington, Calif., where she worked at Calship Yard as a journeyman electrician. She returned to Lawton in early 1945 and worked at Fort Sill. She married Carroll Dyer on Dec. 23, 1945 in Lawton. In 1950, they moved to Orono, Maine. In February 1967, she went to work for the plants and soil department of the University of Maine in the soil testing laboratory. She retired in 1981. They moved to Hamilton in October 1981. She belonged to the Corvallis Methodist Church, helped at the Commodity Center in Hamilton, and was on the Hospital Guild at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital. Survivors include her husband, of the home; her children: Duane Allen, West Jordan, Utah; and Kevin Ross, Kodiak, Alaska; a brother, Ted Hanks, Wichita Falls, Texas; four sisters: Grace Linville, Paradise, Calif.; Johnnie Mae Leonard, Hamilton, Mont.; Nadine Swindells, Louisville, Ky.; and Nancy Hale, Fletcher; seven grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Leslie Jean; a brother, Del Hanks, and a sister, Annabelle Lewis.
