All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Sunset Memorial Gardens--Lawton OK BeckerBecker Funeral Home Obit 22 Dec 2005 SSG (Retired) Hilbert Eppler Age 78, East of Lawton - Funeral service with Order of the Eastern Star rites will be 1:30 PM Tuesday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Loyd Ashenfelter, Pastor, Salem Missionary Baptist Church, officiating. Sergeant Eppler died Thursday at his residence. Burial with Masonic rites and full military honors will be in the Veteran’s Field of Honor at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. He was born on March 15, 1927 in Cyril to MAJ (Retired) Rudolf and Vera (Merez) Eppler. He served in the US Army and had tours in Germany, Korea and Alaska. He retired on July 31, 1965. He married Ingeborg M.H. Baumann in Heidelberg, Germany on April 5, 1952. She died on October 26, 1997. He also worked for civil service at Fort Sill for Logistic Property Disposal. He retired after 21 years. He married Patsy Jean Standridge in Lawton on August 25, 2001. He was a member of the Salem Missionary Baptist Church, Disabled American Veterans, VFW and the American Legion. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #183, where he was a Past Master in 1972, and a member of the Guthrie Valley Scottish Rite. He was a Past Patron of the OSA Chapter #514 Order of the Eastern Star from 1981 – 1982. He was a founding member of the Job’s Daughters Bethel #11 Chapter, a Past President of the National Sojourners #129, a Past Commander of the Phil Sheridan Heroes of ’76, Past Watchmen of Shepherds of White Shriner Jerusalem #24 and a committee member for the Supreme White Shrine of Jerusalem, a Past Royal Patron of the Lawton Amaranths #36, and a member of the State Royalty Club of Oklahoma Order of the Amaranths. He was a committee member of the Masonic Grand Lodge for the state of Oklahoma and was on several other committees on the state and supreme level. He was a Worthy Patron of the Elgin Order of the Eastern Star #255 and served as a Chaplain for many of the local Order of the Eastern Star chapters. Survivors include his wife of the home; four daughters and sons-in- law, Vera Fisher and John of Lawton, Trude Schenker and Scott of Lawton, Debbie McPherson and Dan of Tuttle and Amber Stafford and David of Lawton; 13 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Rudolph Eppler and Irma of Dallas, Texas and Daniel R. Eppler and Gloria of Geronimo; and numerous other nieces and nephews. His parents, first wife, a daughter, Ursula Fleming, and two infant sisters, preceded him in death.
