All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Ft Sill Post Cemetery--Ft Sill OK Lawton Constitution 02 Jun 2003 Marina Fernandez Funeral for Marina Fernandez, 73, Lawton, will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Lt. Col. Joe Hannon, chaplain, officiating. Mrs. Fernandez died Friday, May 30, 2003, at her home. Burial will be at Fort Sill Post Cemetery. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Becker Funeral Home. She was born July 19, 1929, in Cali, Columbia, to Carlin and Maria Osorio Collazos. She married retired Command Sgt. Maj. Luis A. Fernandez on Feb. 25, 1953, in the Panama Canal Zone. She supported her husband’s military career through European assignments and the Vietnam War, staying at home to raise their nine children. She was granted American citizenship on March 5, 1958. Survivors include her husband, of the home; five sons: Jaime, Omar, Ellis and David Fernandez, all of Lawton; and Rey Fernandez, Fort Worth, Texas; three daughters: Gisela Fernandez, Lawton; Walkidia Gomez, Norman; and Concesa Cockrell, Edmond; a sister, Carmen Amato, Belton, Texas; 22 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and several family and friends. She was preceded in death by a son, Luis A. Fernandez II, and three brothers.
