Wayne Ashlock officiating. Burial will be in Marlow Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home. ========= Duncan Banner 9 Mar 2003 Ruth Ellen Kirk Gayle LAWTON — Ruth Ellen Kirk Gayle was born May 22, 1918 in Marlow, to Ralph Franklin and Alma (Butler) Kirk, and passed from this life Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at her home in Lawton, at the age of 84 years, 9 months and 10 days. Service was to be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church in Lawton, with the Rev. Wayne Ashlock officiating. Ruth lived in Lawton for 54 years. She attended elementary school in Beaver Community and graduated from Marlow High School. She continued her education at Central State College in Edmond, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She married Elam N. Gayle on May 23, 1943, in Marlow; he preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 1971. Ruth’s career in education led her to teach first grade through 12th grade at Beaver Community, first through eighth grade at Rock Springs, first grade at Roosevelt School and first grade at Swinney School. Ruth retired at the age of 62 after 42 years of teaching. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Lawton where she was a long time member of the Young Adult Class, a Deaconess, and a member of the Board of Directors, taught a Sunday school class for elementary education, was a door greater and passed out bulletins. Ruth was a member of the Mall Mile Walkers and received several patches for her membership and dedication. She was a member of various candy clubs and enjoyed making candy, especially divinity, peanut brittle and fudge. She also enjoyed cooking, needle point, arts and crafts of all types, tatting, crocheting and making Christmas decorations. She is survived by two sons, Ralph Gayle and wife, Karen, of Aransas Pass, Texas, and Carl Gayle and wife, Lou Ann, of Austin, Texas; six grandchildren; Bobbie Jo Courtney, Sandra Williamson and husband, Tony, Carl Gayle, Jr., Jaclyn Gayle, Joshua Gayle, Tina Patton and husband, Jason; six great grandchildren; Jessica and Danielle Courtney, Kyle and Kory Williamson, Marcus and T.J. Patton. She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother Carl and a sister Jeanette. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Christian Church Youth Program of Lawton, 701 S.W.
