Maj. Alexander Gray, 84, Lawton, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Fort Sill Post Cemetery. Sgt. Maj. Gray died Thursday, March 13, 2003, in Lawton. Burial with military honors will be under direction of Becker Funeral Home. He was born Nov. 6, 1918, at Blenheim, S.C., to Zannie L. and Genia Lorena Gray. He married Geraldine T. Spradlin on Jan. 3, 1942, in Hollis. He graduated from high school in South Carolina, and enlisted in the Army in March 1939 at Fort Bragg, N.C. He served during World War II and Korea, and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. He retired from the Army in December 1960 at Fort Sill. After his retirement he worked for the Army Air Force Exchange Service at Fort Sill for many years. He was a Baptist, a 32nd-degree Mason and a member of Mt. Scott Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Darby A. Gray Jr. and Vickie Gray, Norman; a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy Jane and Randy Schapansky, Sentinel; four sisters: Emaline Gardner and Margaret Belk, both of Bennettsville, S.C.; Juanita Lane, Latta, S.C.; and Agnes Owens, Waverly, Tenn.; three grandchildren: Casey Alexander and Conan Ashley Gray, both of Lawton; and Mollie Tylene Jackson, Ypsilanti, Mich. He was preceded in death by a brother, James McNeil Gray; and a sister, Jessie Carabo.
