Larry Lewis Gray, 55, Lawton, is pending with Jefferson Funeral Home. Staff Sergeant Gray died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at his home. ========= Lawton Constitution August 23, 2003 Larry Lewis Gray Funeral for retired Staff Sgt. Larry Lewis Gray, 55, Lawton, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Tyrone E. Turner, pastor, officiating. Staff Sgt. Gray died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at his home. Burial with military honors will be at Fort Sill Post Cemetery under direction of Jefferson Funeral Home Inc. He was born Oct. 20, 1957, in Wimauma, Fla., to Joseph Gray Sr. and Agnes Gray. He attended public schools in Hillsborough County, Fla. He came to Lawton from Fort Carson, Colo., in 1972. He married Iola James on March 16, 1972, in Lawton. He attended St. John Baptist Church, and was a member of the Northwest Kiwanis Club, Lawton. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1965 and retired in 1985 after 20 years of service. He served during the Vietnam Conflict. Other duty assignments included Colorado, Germany and Washington. During his Army career, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with six Service Stars, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, three Overseas Service Bars, Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Medal-3, Good Conduct Medal- 6, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon-2 and Expert Rifle (M-16). After retirement from the Army, he was a civil service human resource assistant with the Fort Sill Directorate of Civilian Personnel. Survivors include his wife, Lawton; two daughters: Sonja Mayon and her husband, Albert, Lawton; and Alicia Gray, Newport News, Va.; a son, Larry Gray Jr. and his wife, Twanna, Rosell, N.J.; two sisters: Helen White, Indianapolis; and Shirley G. Lanier and her husband, William, Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Nathan R. Anderson and his wife, Sheila, Tampa, Fla.; two uncles: Bethel Stephens and his wife, Ruth, Wimauma; and Louis Adolph, Lawton; two sisters-in-law: Deana Gray, Tampa; and Rose Mary James, Baton Rouge, La.; and four brothers-in- law and their wives: Thomas and Artimease Perkins, Robert and Lillie Perkins and John and Vennola Perkins, all of Baton Rouge; and Alvin and Janice James, Lawton.
