Garner Funeral for retired Master Sgt. Stanford H. Garner, 74, Lawton, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at New Post Chapel, Fort Sill, with Kenneth Cotton officiating. Mr. Garner died Monday, May 12, 2003, in Oklahoma City. Burial with military honors will be in Fort Sill National Cemetery under direction of Jefferson Funeral Home. He was born Oct. 5, 1928, in San Augustine, Texas, to Lamar and Bobbie Garner. He married Catherine Pettis on Feb. 12, 1962, in San Augustine. He moved to Lawton in 1976 from Germany. He worked for several years in the funeral business before enlisting in the U. S. Army in November, 1950. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and earned several medals during his military career, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars, the United Nations Service medal, the Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), the Army Service Ribbon and the Overseas Service Ribbon. He retired from military service in June, 1982. He was employed at Martin Marietta Corp and was a bus driver at Fort Sill. Survivors include his wife, of the home; two daughters: Jacqueline Harris, Copperas Cove, Texas, and Sammye Kay Malone, Houston, Texas; two sisters: Frances Cotton, Nacogdoches, Texas; Bobbie Garner, San Augustine; a brother, Edward Garner, Denver. He was preceded in death by his parents.
