Lawton Constitution 15 Jun 2003 Leonard 'Gene' Huber LUBBOCK, Texas -Memorial service for former Lawton resident Leonard "Gene" Huber was held May 2, 2003, in Lubbock, Texas, at White Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. John Ballard officiating. Mr. Huber died Tuesday, April 29, 2003, in Lubbock, Texas. He was born June 11, 1919, in Lawton to Leonard Fredrick and Effie Davis Huber. He graduated from Lawton High School in 1937, and attended Cameron Junior College. He moved to Lubbock in 1939. He married Bennie Roberts Sept. 11, 1951, in Albuquerque, N.M. He was co-owner of Huber Western Wear, and Huber's Pawn Shop from 1939 to 1994. He was a member of the board of directors for the Texas Pawn Brokers Association, and president of the Lubbock Pawn Broker's Association in 1986. He was a co-founder of Cowtown Boot Company in El Paso. He was a member of First Baptist Church, and the Downtown Bible Class. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Zane Roberts Huber, Lubbock, Texas; two daughters: Gena Gail Huber, and Shana Lynn Bidwell, both of Lubbock; and six grandchildren.
