All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.html ========================================================================== Lawton Constitution 30 Aug 2005 Merle Humble ELK CITY -- Mass of Christian burial will be said for Merle Humble, 77, Elk City, at 2 p.m. today at St. Mathew Catholic Church with the Rev. Timothy Fuller officiating. Mr. Humble died Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, in Oklahoma City. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery under direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service, Elk City. He was born Nov. 1, 1927, in the Jack Creek community west of Chattanooga to Elmore W. and Maude Brooks Humble. He attended school at Jack Creek and graduated from Chattanooga High School. He entered the U.S. Army and served his country during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge, he returned to the Chattanooga area, where he farmed and worked in the insurance business with Cattleman's Life Insurance. He married Evelyn Elizabeth Hundelt in Ruidoso, N.M. on Aug. 1, 1982. They lived in Anadarko before moving to Elk City in 1985 to make their home. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and was involved in the Knights of Columbus. He established the St. Vincent DePaul Food Bank, which he managed until his death. Survivors include three daughters: Jennifer Pruitt and her husband, Herb, Elk City; Pamela Barnes, Amarillo, Texas; and Tami D'Ann Mickelson, Muskogee; two sons: Mike Humble and his wife, Sherry, Lawton; and John R. Barnes, Las Vegas, Nev.; a brother, Gale Humble, Norman; two sisters: Elene Kinder, Frederick; and Lahoma Bard-Dye, Lawton; nine grandchildren: Chelsea D'Ann Humble, Erica Brooke Humble, Lester Barnes, Amber Abbott, Robert Abbott, James Pruitt, Thomas Mickelson, Shelby Mickleson, Christopher Barnes; and many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a sister, Greeta Humble; three brothers: Vallie, J.S. and Elzie Humble; and a stepdaughter, Janet Renee Barnes.
