Mrs. Himes died Monday, May 5, 2003, in Vernon, Texas. ========= Lawton Constitution 10 May 2003 Elizabeth Andrew Lay Himes Funeral for Elizabeth Andrews Lay Himes, 97, Lawton, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lawton New Zion Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Kelvin Paige, pastor, officiating. She died Monday, May 5, 2003, in Vernon, Texas. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens under direction of Howard-Harris Funeral Services, Lawton. She was born Oct. 22, 1905, in Luther to Samuel and Lizzy Andrews. She worked on a farm in the fields, herding and milking cows and curing bacon. She was a member of Primitive Baptist Church, Luther. She married William O. Lay in Langston, and they moved to Oklahoma City. She joined Avery Chapel A.M.E. Church. The family moved to Los Angeles in the early 1940s and she remarried and joined Bethel A.M.E. Church. She moved to Lawton in 1987 to be near her son, David. She joined New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, and she was a homemaker. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, David and Diane Lay, Vernon, Texas; five grandchildren and their spouses: Michael W. and Stephanie Lay, Los Angeles; David K. and Carolyn Lay, Oceanside, Calif.; Darrel Lay Miller, Sharon Lay Miller and Derrick Williams, all of Fort Leonardwood, Mo.; several great-grandchildren; several great-great- grandchildren; and many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and 10 siblings.
