Hinson Funeral for retired Sgt. 1st Class William E. Hinson, 83, Lawton, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cache Road Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Reed officiating. Sgt. Hinson died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at his home. Burial with military honors will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, under direction of Jefferson Funeral Home, Inc. He was born May 7, 1921, in Society Hill, S.C., to Roscoe and Bessie Hinson. He graduated from Mayo High School in Darlington, S.C. He enlisted in the Army on Nov. 15, 1942, in South Carolina, and served tours of duty in Germany; Vietnam; Korea; Fort Sill; Fort Eustis, Va.; Fort Benning, Ga.; and Fort Lewis, Wash. His awards and decorations include the Good Conduct Medal 6th Award, Republic of Vietnam Service Medal with two stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, National Defense Service medal 1st Oak Leaf Cluster, two Overseas medals and a World War II Victory Medal. He served 30 years before his retirement on Jan. 31, 1972, in Lawton. He had moved to Lawton in 1968, and also attended Cameron University. He married Carolyn Abraham on May 10, 1977, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was a member of the Froggs Civic and Social Club, VFW Post No. 1193, and the Department Veterans Affairs. He was also a member of Cache Road Baptist Church. Survivors include Mary C. Hinson, Lawton; three sons: Steve Abraham and his wife Josie, Oak Harbor, Wash.; Eric Abraham, Lawton; and Michael Abraham and his wife Amanda, Chattanooga, Tenn; and surrogate children: Kyle Robertson and his wife, DeAnn; and Jimmy Reed and his wife Petrena.
