Harper Graveside service with military honors for James A. Harper, 68, Lawton, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Post Cemetery, Fort Sill. Mr. Harper died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at a local hospital. Arrangements are under direction of Becker Funeral Home. He was born Aug. 7, 1935, in Sheridan, Ark., to Roy and Thelma Holiman Harper. He enlisted into the Army in November 1952 and served in Korean and Vietnam. He also served as a tank commander. He retired as a staff sergeant after 22¢ years and received numerous medals including the Bronze Star Medal, National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal (4th Award), Combat Infantryman Badge, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. He married Carol Ann Ellington on May 5, 1967, in Wichita Falls, Texas. After he retired, he was employed by TG&Y as a mechanic. Survivors include his wife, of the home; and two sisters: Louise Wagner and her husband, Allen, Cabot, Ark.; and Brenda Grunwald, Pine Bluff, Ark.
