All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== :Sunset Memorial Gardens--Lawton OK Lawton Constitution 8 Dec 2003 Harris, Gladys Maxine Funeral for Gladys Maxine Harris, 88, Lawton, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Central Baptist Church, Lawton, with Brad Allen, Marlow, officiating. ========= Lawton Constitution 9 Dec 2003 Gladys Maxine Harris Funeral for Gladys Maxine Harris, 88, Lawton, will be at 2 p.m. today at Central Baptist Church, Lawton, with Brad Allen, Marlow, officiating. Ms. Harris died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at a local care center. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens under direction of Becker Funeral Home. She was born Sept. 2, 1915, in Amory, Miss., to Mary Willie and William Walker Harris. Her family moved to Oklahoma in 1924. She attended Indiahoma Schools, where she received several honors. She graduated as valedictorian of her class on April 27, 1933. She attended Cameron State Agricultural College and graduated with honors on May 15, 1935. She received a scholarship to Midwestern State College in Wichita Falls, Texas. She worked several years for the Acme Laundry and also for Chickasha Milling Company. She went to work for the Production Marketing Administration, now known as Farm Service Agency, in 1940. She retired in 1974. She was the chief clerk for many years and received several outstanding service awards. She was president of the Lawton Business and Professional Womens Club from 1967 to 1968. After retirement from her government job, she sold real estate for Cache Road Realty for a number of years. She also worked at Meadowbrook Storage as secretary for a number of years. She worked until she broke her hip in February of 2002. She was a member of Central Baptist Church. Survivors include three sisters: Clara Way, who was her caregiver, of the home; Jackie Farris, Duncan; and Peggy Bain, Lawton; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ray Harris; and a sister, Eunice Salyer. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Baptist Church, 901 SW B, Lawton 73501.
