Cook, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Horton died Saturday at her residence. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home. She was born June 12, 1919 at Somerset, Kentucky, to Charles and Ida Phelps. She moved with her family to the Wesley Chapel area, west of Lawton, at the age of five. She attended first through third grades at Pecan School. She lived at Bochito, Oklahoma, for a few years before moving to the Elgin area where she lived for a couple of years and attended Mistletoe School. She moved to a farm at Indiahoma and attended school at Indiahoma. She later moved to the Cache area and was a 1940 graduate of Cache High School. After she graduated high school she worked on the farm hoeing and picking cotton. She had worked in the mess hall at Fort Sill for two years and in the Dental Clinic at Fort Sill for several Years. She married George Horton, July 21, 1945 in Anadarko. He died December 13, 1995. While working at Fort Sill she moved near Deyo Mission and later to Lawton. After her marriage she continued to live on a farm west of Lawton and operated a dairy. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a volunteer at Comanche County Memorial Hospital. She had been a member of the Scott Home Demonstration Club and while her children were young she was active in 4- H. Survivors include two daughters and sons in law, Sharon and Bill Stephen and Mary Jane and Gary Jones, all of Cache; a son and daughter in law, Dr. Dan D. and Saradell Horton, Lawton; seven grandchildren, Shannon Richey and husband Michael, Cache; Tracy Frees and husband, Gary, Parker, Colorado; Kelly Dollarhite and husband Brandon, Comanche, Oklahoma; George Horton, Lawton; Levi Jones, Cache; Mary Beth Talley and husband Saul, Stillwater, Oklahoma; and DeeDee Horton & fiancé J.C. Stafford, Stillwater; four great grandchildren, Amanda and Alicia Richey, Cache; Emily Frees, Parker, Colorado, and Blake Dollarhite, Comanche; special friends, Dave and Jane Reavis, Lawton. Six brothers, Arnold, Ted, Howard, Willis, John and Hoy Phelps, preceded her in death.
