All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Lawton Constitution April 27 & 28, 2002 Madge John 27 Sep 1905 - 26 Apr 2002 Flower Mound Cemetery Funeral for Madge John, 96, Lawton, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Gary W. Cook, pastor, officiating. Mrs. John died Friday, April 26, 2002, at her home. Burial will be at Flower Mound Cemetery east of Lawton under direction of Becker Funeral Home. She was born Sept. 27, 1905, southeast of Lawton to George and Margie Sharpe Elkins. She graduated from Lawton High School in 1922. She taught school at Flower Mound at age 18. She taught at Franklin School the next year, then returned to Flower Mound for two or three years. She then went to work at Fort Sill and was a secretary in the Ordnance Department for five years. She married Lyman L. John on Sept. 8, 1929. He died Feb. 22, 1996. They were involved in the dairy business for 43 years and in the Angus cattle business for the last 50 years. She served as president of the Comanche County Home Demonstration Federation and as president and vice president of the Home Economics Club. She taught Sunday school for 40 years at Flower Mound. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law: Russell and Bennie John and Ramon John, all of Lawton; eight grandchildren; and 19 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
