'Bill' James Graveside service for William C. "Bill" James, 83, Lawton will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Altus City Cemetery with the Rev. Boyd Whitehead, pastor, Emmanuel Baptist Church, Altus, officiating. Mr. James died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at a local care center. Arrangements are by Becker Funeral Home. He was born Nov. 10, 1921, in Sulphur to Myrtle and Smith James. He graduated from Altus High School in 1941. After graduation he served in the Merchant Marines as a second mate for four years. He was in the Pacific, Atlantic and Mediterranean U.S. Maritime Service. He married Flora Warren in 1952 in Lawton. He was in the grocery business with his father in Altus for years. He moved to Lawton and then to Dallas, remaining in the grocery business until his retirement in 1986. In 1993 he and his wife moved to Lawton. He was a member of First United Presbyterian Church in Lawton and the Masonic Lodge. He and his wife attended First Baptist Church and the adult Sunday school class. Survivors include his wife, of the home; a sister, Joy Sherwood, Oklahoma City; a brother, Henry James, Edmonds, Wash.; a nephew, Michael James, New York; and many friends.
