All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::NOT LISTED Johnson, Ada Belle Starr Ada Belle Starr Johnson May 9, 1912 - March 2, 2007 Resident of Walnut Creek Beloved wife of Lester Johnson, devoted mother of Robert and Christine. Treasured Grandmother to Tim, Pat, Casey, Ben and Katy and Great Grandmother to Jonathan, Kasey, Garrett, Colton, Ben and Taylor. Cherished Aunt to Phil and Grace Starr, Ken and Andrea Starr and many other nieces and nephews. Great Aunt, idol, champion and supporter to numerous great nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. Ada was born in Lawton, Oklahoma. At the age of one, road the train with her family to Northern Minnesota where her Dad taught school on the Natawash and Onigum Indian Reservations for the Chippewa Indians. After her graduation in 1930 from Walker High School, in Walker Minnesota, Ada attended teachers training and taught first through eight grades in the Mann School in Cass County Minnesota. Ada and Lester married in May, 1933, their son Robert was born in Cass Lake, Minnesota and their daughter Christine was born in San Francisco. In 1942, while Les was working in Waterways, British Columbia, Canada building oil barges to bring oil into the United States for the war effort. Ada and Bob boarded a bus to come west to San Francisco to visit friends and get away from the Minnesota winters. Ada immediately got a job driving a fork lift loading medical supplies for shipment to the Pacific during World War II. Les soon joined his wife and son in San Francisco where he went to work for the Cyclone Fence Company. In 1960 Les and Ada started the Coast Fence Company in San Francisco. Shortly after Lester's death in 1980, Ada and Christine moved to Walnut Creek. Ada enjoyed watercolor and calligraphy and has been doing china painting for several years. Ada was an active member of the Fair Oak Baptist Church Senior Outreach and enjoyed helping the ladies make greeting cards. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service celebrating Ada's life on Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Fair Oaks Baptist Church, 1925 Risdon Road, Concord, CA. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to Hospice Care of Contra Costa County, 3470 Buskirk Avenue, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523, or to Fair Oaks Senior Outreach in memory of Ada Johnson.
